Graphic Design
Thanks for checking out my Graphic Design portfolio.
I started as a freelance Graphic Designer in 2007, a full time Graphic Designer 2009, and have worked as contractor for the U.S. Department of Commerce as a Visual Information Specialist, for 4 separate contracts. Much of my Graphic Design work had me working closely with printers and prepress operators, so I am quite familiar with the whole process.
The Roaming Gnome Scavenger Hunt
Campaign to increase community engagement. I created the logo and marketing materials.
Once Upon a Park Logo
Logo created for a story-based scavenger hunt for Howard County Parks & Recreation
Bocce Ball League Logo Concepts
Logo Seal and Pin
Logo Seal for Archdiocese of Washington DC, Orthodox Church in America. Produced as a metal pin and seal used on stationary. The only previously existing files were very low resolution so I was tasked to remake and elaborate (because the resolution was so low) on the design. I traced over the version provided for reference using Illustrator and delivered vector files. The scene shows famous landmarks in and around Washington DC, including the Orthodox Cathedral and an eagle. I used macro extension tubes to photograph the final product. About 500 of these pins were produced.
Healthcare Enrollment Booklets
Create healthcare Enrollment Guides for Anne Arundel County for both Employees with Non-Medicare Eligible and Medicare Eligible Retirees. I used InDesign to format and typeset the 90 page and 52 page documents, review and place healthcare provider charts and material, as well as curate/edit stock photos (Photoshop) for use throughout each booklet. Hundreds of each set of booklets were printed offset and PDFs were delivered to the client for posting on their website. I made these pairs of booklets for 2018, 2019, and 2020.
Surgical Instrument Catalog
Roboz Surgical Instrument Company, a leading designer and developer of surgical instruments and related products, needed to update, redesign, edit, and print their new catalog with up-to-date information. A new cover was needed too. All of the data within the catalog needed to match their indexes. Using existing files, I updated and formatted many pages of data, printed drafts for the client to mark up, and made edits to nearly every photo. The indexes were all updated meticulously.I reworked and collaborated with the client on the cover art which included a thermographicly printed shine on specific parts of the cover and back cover. The catalog ended up being 204 pages; over 1000 catalogs were printed. PDFs were also delivered for their website.
Urban Homestead Logo
One Sixth Acre is a Etsy shop and farmer's market stand selling unique, artisan gifts from an urban homestead. I was hired to create a logo that incorporates the name "One Sixth Acre" along with a bee and head of lettuce or vegetable. The logo should also have a hand-drawn feel to it . I did many sketches for the client and narrowed it down to 2 ideas with different kinds of bees. Final tweaks were made to the one we both felt was the best. The client used the design to make stamps and labels for her products.
Church Directory - Photography, Design, and Printing
St. Mark Orthodox Church tasked me to create and print the photo-directory containing all members portraits and to list their contact information. I started on the photography team, where we set up a studio with lights and staged the background. Over a few weeks time, photographed as many members as possible while keeping a running list of their names. I made edits to exposure, white balance, and cropped as needed to make each portrait consistent. I then made use of an excel data sheet to import members information such as: names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses, while separating each entry by household. After importing late entries, creating a cover, and filling blank pages with photography, it was time to print the booklet. I negotiated pricing for digitally printing 200, 48 page saddle-stitched booklets on 100# gloss text and 12pt C1S Cover stock and personally printed and delivered them.
Artist Calendars - Ten Years
Along with working with the artist Yankel Ginzburg, on the art, every year we would produce about 1000 of these calendars showcasing his most recent works of art. Every year was a new design, which I laid out in InDesign after making some sizing adjustments in Photoshop for prepress at the printer. I laid out each months dates, a short biography, and labeled each work’s title, size, and medium of art for each month and the cover. About 2000 - 3000 for each year were produced.
Screamin’ 5K Benefit T-Shirt Design
This is a t-Shirt I designed for a Halloween themed costume 5K fun-walk/run to benefit a local volunteer fire department. I Illustrated the sinister firetruck in Adobe illustrator, picked a scary font that would go along with Halloween theme, and used the red font to reinforce the official/universal fire department atheistic.
Breast Health 5K Banner
I designed and ordered for printing this banner for the client's Annual 5K Walk/Run Fundraiser. I wanted that banner to be bright, motivating, and to use familiar symbolism. I used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Here are some other items I have worked on recently. As you can see, I have a passion for illustration and print.
